Bulan Jalur Gemilang, tahun Covid-19 (The month of Stripes of Glory, the Year of Covid-19).
The month of August is the celebrated throughout to remember the moment Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia) gained independence from the rule of the British Empire, on 31 August 1957.
The road side, bridges, shops and many other spots are lined with Malaysian flags, also known as Jalur Gemilang (i.e Stripes of Glory), and the state flags all round the month.
Also today, 1 August 2020, it is mandatory to use face masks in crowded public places where social distancing cannot be practised to help stop the spread of the Covid-19, according to a news article in The Star newspaper online on 29 July 2020.
