Sunday morning in KK

I usually do my Sunday run in different part of Kota Kinabalu (KK). But last Sunday, 26 July 2020, I ran in the heart of KK starting from Tanjung (Tg.) Aru library to Gaya Street and back to Tg. Aru library.

Here are some photos to remember this point of time. Still in the Covid-19 Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) phase, Malaysians are now free to go out and conduct their usual activities but are advised (sternly) to practise safe distancing, wear face mask and maintain good hygiene.

Tg. Aru roundabout in the foreground and Tg. Aru Plaza, police flats, building-in-construction and Chaya Hotel in the background.
Tg. Aru shoplots. This photo was taken at about 6:30 AM — still too early for any non-restaurant shop to operate.
A junction near the main Tg. Aru intersection. ‘Seteshen’ on this street sign is the retro spelling for ‘stesyen’ (the Bahasa Melayu word for ‘station’) .
Bali Bali Gardens restaurant, near the Tg. Aru intersection, was a cosy place however the business didn’t sustain. I was surprised to see its derelict state. This is a prime area so rent is expected to be high.
A Spectre X360 billboard at the Karamunsing intersection.
A Penampang bus in the foreground at the Karamunsing intersection, heading towards Donggongon.
The white building in the middle of the photo is the 4-star The Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu. This hotel has been around since the mid 1980s.
A lot of people in KK picked up cycling. There are many cyclists co-using the road KK especially during the weekend.
The newest hotel in KK, Holiday Inn Express, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). This is just opposite Hilton Kota Kinabalu.
The Inanam/ Menggatal-bound bus station which is just opposite the Plaza Shell building.
The Gaya Street market is popular among the locals and also tourists (because they can find traditional gifts and accessories here). During RMCO, all commercial places are required to record visitors’ details and even entry to Gaya Street is documented.

A board commemorating an environmental activity participated by the Sabah and US government. The activity is  a symbolic gesture of the diplomatic ties between the two parties.
The jogging and cycling track along Jalan Coastal. The track starts from PERKESO building in Tg. Aru and ends at Anjung Senja in KK.
