Do we need business mentors?
For 1.5 days from 13 to 14th June 2020, I joined the Grow Your Business (GYB) seminar by the Hasbul Brothers via Zoom.
If you’re not familiar with them, the Hasbul Brothers consist of two brothers—Hasbul Ariff Hasan Zaki and Hasbul Aqill Hasan Zaki—who are both business coaches and owners of a local business magazine called Majalah Niaga.
I paid RM 69 for the Early Bird GYB VIP package which entitled me to the main seminar on Saturday and also another one on Sunday, which was the Sales Growth Masterclass.
Conducted in Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language), GYB, of course, was just an introductory talk to their more advanced programme –The Growth X and The Protege, where they guide business owners for 6 months and 1 year respectively. Some of the businesses that they’ve helped are Kasi Clean, ZBC Bakery, The El’s and SweatFitt Apparel.
GYB was attended by over 2000 participants from various backgrounds (based on the responses in the chat section)—some were new business owners, some have been doing business for 7 years and some have not ventured into business yet. There were product owners, service providers and drop shippers.
During the talk, the Hasbul Brothers presented several case studies (i.e clients that they’ve worked with) and discussed about, among other things, the Golden Triangle Formula, marketing and costing strategy but there were two that I really liked—validation (a preliminary stage to determine if your product/ service has a demand in the market); and target market (only focus on one segment of the market because we do not have that much marketing budget to reach everyone).
These two points, i.e. validation and target market, and the other things that they talked about may not be new to a lot of people. But we tend to overlook these factors when we’re under the illusion of instant success. An experienced mentor would be able to help you by giving valuable insights before making decision.
The GYB programme is a great seminar for new entrepreneurs, and is equally good for the not-so-new ones who are in search of a business mentor—the seminar helps to you decide if you’d like to engage the Hasbul Brothers as your mentor through the Growth X and The Protege programmes.
